Before firearms and nuclear weapons, swords served as the primary fighting weapons. Medieval knights used to carry swords as their fighting weapons. Also, they used to wear different protective gear. They often wore medieval armor as a protection against the swords. A sword is a bladed weapon that can cause serious injuries. To prevent those injuries, an armor is worn. Armor is often made of steel plates and served as a great protection.
In 2021, medieval armor is not more than just a collectible and a cosplay weapon. There are a few types of medieval armor that are being used today. Following is a list of armor that you must add to your arsenal if you are a crazy enthusiast and a lover of medieval weapons. There are usually 7 types, and we explore each of them!
1. Full Body Armor
A full body armor is a complete armor that covers the entire body of the wearer. This is why it is also known as the body armor. It is supposed to protect the entire body from swords. A sword can cause wounds at any part of the body so it is important to protect the entire body.
2. Arm Armor
Arms are the most vulnerable parts of the body to swords. The opponents targeted the arms so that the person drops the sword and becomes an easy victim. The arm armor is worn on the arms to protect the arms from the swords.
3. Leg Armor
Apart from arms, legs used to be vulnerable against the swords. The opponents also target legs to make the person get down. So, it is important to protect the legs during wars. A leg armor is often worn around the legs and it serves as a protection for the legs.
4. Chainmail Armor
A chainmail armor, as the name suggests, it is a type of armor with a few chains connected together. There are many metal plates connected together. This is not a massive armor, rather it protects the head, neck and breast of the warriors. The chains make this armor gorgeous and unique.
5. Gorged Armor
A gorget armor is sometimes just called a gorget and is a type of armor that covers the chest and head of the warrior. It is a beautiful armor and is often used for LARP these days. You will see people wearing it on Halloween as a costume.
